the clip: For Every Man (121 KB) Featuring Cassidy Music & Lyrics by Ron Bohmer |
"The first song I wrote for the CD, indeed the first song Id written in years. Sometimes we get so caught up in bringing to life other peoples voices and thoughts, that we stop listening to our own. This spot on the record was originally reserved for a Kenny Loggins song. Around January 1 of 1997 I decided, without much hope, to ask Trevor Nunn if he would be willing to write an introduction for the CD. A few weeks later, his response came, which is now printed in the liner notes of everyman. I felt so honored by his words empowered, limitless. They gave me the courage to see what the voice inside me had to say. I took the song to my good friend Philip Fortenberry. His incredible keyboard skills, as well as the gospel in his soul are largely responsible for the spirit in this song. My daughter, Cassidy was going to sing on the Loggins tune, so it seemed even more appropriate that she sing on this one." |

Rent |
"When I first discussed doing this CD with my producer, David Chase, he suggested doing something risky, something unexpected. A few days later I had the idea of putting these two songs together, old and new, the prince in love and the man who might not live to be the prince he longs to be. I loved Rent, and felt that this would be a great addition." |

the clip: Tell it to the Wind (107 KB) Lyrics by Ron Bohmer |
"Kind of speaks for itself. This is more the style of ballad that tends to come out of me folk, pop. I actually have more music influences in this area than in music theatre. This was the last song I wrote for the record, really too late to get it on there. But David felt it was important to include as much of my own music as possible so he worked very hard to get it done by our mastering deadline. David played all of the instruments on this track, some of them at five oclock in the morning before running it over to be mastered later that morning. I consider myself very lucky to have the honor of such a good friend and talented man in my corner and on this recording." |

the clip: Seeing is Believing (122 KB) Featuring Linda Balgord From Aspects of
Love |
"It seemed impossible for me to make this recording and not include a duet with Linda Balgord. Weve spent so much time together on stage and grown together as artists so much in the last several years. A lot of that began with our being cast together in Aspects of Love." |

"Written by my producer about the experience of having my first child, a daughter. I also think, though that it encompasses the feeling of unimaginable Love in your life." |

the clip: When the Lights Go Out (110 KB) Music & Lyrics by |
"Was originally intended to be the first song on the CD, a kind of contemporary Broadway overture. The record moved to a more balanced place between pop and theatre though, and it seemed to fit better in the middle of the record, as a movement from my original material to the better known stuff. "This song is dedicated to Leah. Happy Birthday, 1997." |

the clip: A Blank Piece of Paper (115 KB) From The Last Metro |
"I first performed this song in a workshop at Musical Theatre Works in Manhattan in 1985. The Musical is The Last Metro, book by Philip Gerson, music and lyrics by Jeff Rockwell. Ive sung the song ever since and have always known it would be on my first recording. Thanks, Jeff." |

"One other recording of me doing this song exists (click here to listen), but it was done about 4 weeks after Id been cast in the role and before Id had any rehearsals or performances. I had about 10 months of Sunset under my belt when we recorded this version and I think the difference is notable. This role was such an honor, so full of depth. I Hope there are more guys like Joe Gillis out there for me to bring to life." |

the clip: Love Changes Everything (136 KB) From Aspects of
Love |
"When I first auditioned for this show, the original Canadian cast, I had no idea if I could sing the final note of this song or not. I started working on it with my voice teacher, Marianne Challis, and lo and behold, we found it. I had to find it about 1,000 more times after that, but thanks to good fortune and a great voice teacher, I once again was brought to believe that you can do whatever you set your mind and heart to." |

the clip: Love Cant Happen (118 KB) From Grand Hotel |
"This song belongs to the late David Carroll, the greatest singer to ever grace a Broadway stage. I sing it in his shadow, but still in tribute to a man who inspired me greatly." |

the clip: Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say) (117 KB) From Jesus Christ
Superstar |
"I grew up listening to KISS, Peter Frampton, Aerosmith, The Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, Rush. I had done some musicals as a kid and enjoyed acting, but I spent far more time with pop/rock influences than anything else. Jesus Christ Superstar was like, when worlds collide. All the fire and passion of real rock, combined with great story telling and theatre. I was hooked. Although Ive yet to perform a role in this musical, I always feel that this was the real beginning of my association with Andrew Lloyd Webber." |

the clip: In My Dreams (137 KB) From All Girl Band |
"Written by Bradford Craig for a musical called All Girl Band, this is the first original song I got to perform in NY. I did a workshop of this musical in 1985, which we performed for the likes of Jerry Herman and Bob Fosse. I was a kid off the turnip truck then, so this song will always mean a great deal to me." |
