"I Want to Shout It"

Ron is pleased to be able to continue the "Clip of the Month" feature on his site for a third year.  Around the first of each month, Ron will share the "clip of the month", a video clip that will be available for downloading.  These are only available on Ron's site.  Coming in the months ahead are new clips from Ron's benefit and concert performances.

How does it work?

So, how does it work?  The page contains a very short 15 second preview clip that can be viewed directly from the site.  It will load automatically with the page.  Be patient, it will take a few minutes to complete.  The clip is set to play as soon as it has loaded completely and will play repeatedly until you click the stop button on your browser.

Below the clip will be a link that can be used to download the entire clip.  The full clips range from 2 to 5 minutes and from 10 to 20 megabytes.  Though this size file will take a quite while to download to your own computer, the quality quite good and worth the wait.  Once downloaded, they can be played using the standard media player that comes with Windows 95, 98, 2000 and NT or other software capable of playing mpeg format video clips.  Hopefully the questions below will cover anything you need to know.

Can I use any browser?

For now this page works only with Internet Explorer version 4 and above and AOL version 5.0.  It may work with other versions of AOL, but it has not been tested.  It does not work using Netscape.  We hope to find a way to allow those with Netscape to use this in the future, but at this time the clip preview feature does not work.

How do I download the full clip?

  • Click on the Download Full Video Clip link below the preview clip.
  • A new window will open with the available clip(s).  Right click on the clip you wish copy and select the Copy to Folder or Save Target As option.
  • Specify the location (folder) where the clip is to be saved.  The Desktop folder is probably the best choice because it makes it easier to run the clip later.  Once the download of the clip is complete, it will show up as an icon on your Windows desktop.  Then just double click the icon and the clip will start playing inside the Windows Media Player.
  • If you save the clip in a folder other than Desktop, you will need to use Windows Explorer to find the clip file.  Then double click on the icon to the left of the filename to play the clip.

**   If for any reason the clip download does not complete, no file is saved.

How long will it take to download the entire clip?

This depends on the speed of your connection.   You should try to do this when you can get the fastest connection.  Beneath the download link, there will be information on the running length of the clip, the size and the estimated download time with a 56K connection.  Many of today's modems are 56K but you are unlikely to be able to connect at that speed.    If you connect at 28K, then it will take twice the time shown.  If you connect through cable it will be faster.

Can I download just a part of the clip?

No.  If you cancel in the middle or if you lose your connection to the internet the file is not saved.  If your internet service provider has a time out feature (like AOL), you will need to monitor the process and use your browser once in a while to maintain the connection.

Will I be able to play the clip on my computer?

Probably.  You will need software that can play mpeg clips.  This comes standard with Windows 95 and above.   The clips have been tested on a low end 486 computer and played with good quality so the clips should play on most computers.  The instructions above explain how to play it once it has been downloaded.

How can I get the clips that I missed?

Because of the size of the clips, it is not possible to keep all the clips on the site for downloading at any time.  The current clip will be available for a month.  If there is sufficient space, the clip from the previous month will be available as well.   Eventually, the clips will recycle unless there are new clips to post.

The fourth year of "Clip of the Month" begins with "I Want to Shout It", a new song written with Ben Roseberry, a talented singer/songwriter.  This is from Ron's concert at the Triad Theatre on November 15th, 2003.  It features Ron and Ben along with Bernd Schoenhart (guitar), Joe Mowat (percussion), Peter Sachon (cello), and Steven Watkins (keyboard).

Even though Ron was busy with his "day job", he managed to slip in the concert on a weekend on which he had four shows.  So after the Saturday evening performance of The Thing About Men, Ron (and a portion of the audience) showed up at the Triad for the concert.

This was Ron's first concert since the "2000...songs", the source for "another life", his second CD.  It came about because Ron was especially eager to work with Ben, a talented young man he met when he was in St. Louis for Bee Luther Hatchee.  Ben invited Ron to a jam session on his night off and the rest is history.

This original piece was the first number of the evening and was the perfect start to a night full of original songs and cover tunes from their favorite artists.

The preview clip will load automatically
please be patient.
