In October 2002, Ron had the privilege of starring as Dracula in the American Premiere of
Dracula:
A Chamber Musical at the North
Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, MA. To quote Ron: "Dracula is wonderful; visually stunning; great cast". Add to the list of accolades exquisite costumes, impressive sets, inventive staging and a glorious score for the string quartet and piano. |
|
| The piece, which is based on the novel
by Bram Stoker, literally started as a dream back in 1994.
Richard Ouzounian, who wrote the book and lyrics, dreamt a scene from a
show about Dracula. The next day he presented the idea to one of
Canada's major producers, who was looking for new musicals. After
four years of development, Dracula had its world premiere in Halifax, Nova Scotia in October
of 1998. In June of 1999, it was presented at the Stratford Festival
of Canada. It became the best-selling show in the Festival's history
and was later recorded for television by TVOntario. A book of the
complete script and lyrics, as well as music from six songs, was published just before the American Premiere and the American cast list was included
along with the other two.
(The video is available for purchase from TVOntario
and the script is published by McArthur
& Company.)
