everyman - ron's notes

"Everyman was conceived and created while I was on tour with Sunset Boulevard.   I was looking for some new challenges while I toured the country and this seemed like exciting territory to venture into. I also felt that it was an achievable goal while honoring my commitment to Sunset."

For Every Man

Featuring Cassidy

Music & Lyrics by Ron Bohmer

"The first song I wrote for the CD, the first song I’d written in years. Sometimes we get so caught up in bringing to life other peoples voices and thoughts, that we stop listening to our own. This spot on the record was originally reserved for a Kenny Loggins song. Around January 1 of 1997 I decided, without much hope, to ask Trevor Nunn if he would be willing to write an introduction for the CD. A few weeks later, his response came, which is now printed in the liner notes of everyman. I felt so honored by his words – empowered, limitless. They gave me courage to go deeper. I took the song to my friend Philip Fortenberry. His sound is the spirit in this song."

My daughter, Cassidy was going to sing on the Loggins tune, so it seemed even more appropriate that she sing on this one."

One Song/
One Song Glory

"One Song" - from Snow White
Music & Lyrics by
Frank Churchill & Larry Morey

"One Song Glory" - from Rent
Music & Lyrics by
Jonathan Larson

"The scratched-record sound is intentional here. I originally wanted to do this whole record like a Pink Floyd album - with sounds between tracks that tied the whole thing together into 55 minutes of continuous sound. We couldn't do that by our deadline, but we did manage to make one song sound like a vinyl 78 rpm from the 30's."

Tell it to the Wind

Lyrics by Ron Bohmer
Music by Ron Bohmer
& David O. Chase, Jr.

" This was the last song I wrote for the record, really too late to get it on there. But David felt it was important to include as much of my own music as possible so he busted his ass to get it done by our mastering deadline. Chase played all of the instruments on this track, some of them at 5 am before running it over to be mastered later that morning. I'm lucky to have such a good friend and talented man in my corner."

Seeing is Believing

Featuring Linda Balgord

From Aspects of Love
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by
Don Black & Charles Hart

"After co-starring with her in 2 major musicals, it was impossible for me to make this record and not include a duet with Linda. Such an awesome talent."

She’s Everything

Music & Lyrics by
David O. Chase, Jr.

"Written by my producer about the experience of having my first child, a daughter. I also think it encompasses the feeling of unimaginable Love in your life."

When the Lights Go Out

Music & Lyrics by
Ron Bohmer

"I wrote this to be the first song on the CD, a kind of contemporary Broadway overture. The record moved to a more balanced place between pop and theatre though, and it seemed to fit better in the middle."

A Blank Piece of Paper

From The Last Metro
Music & Lyrics by
Jeffrey Rockwell

"I first sang this in a workshop at Musical Theatre Works in Manhattan. The Musical is The Last Metro, book by Philip Gerson, music and lyrics by Jeff Rockwell. Thanks, Jeff."

Sunset Boulevard

From Sunset Boulevard
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by
Don Black & Christopher Hampton

"One other recording of me doing this song exists , but it was done about 4 weeks after I’d been cast as Joe Gillis and before I’d had any rehearsals or performances. I had about 10 months of Sunset under my belt when we recorded this version."

Love Changes Everything

From Aspects of Love
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by
Don Black & Charles Hart

"In the Canadian production/US tour of this show, we changed the setting for this song and scene to a funeral. It gave it more pain. Because of that, I always think of this tune in the reverse of how it's usually performed. To me, it's always been about loss."

Love Can’t Happen

From Grand Hotel
Music & Lyrics by Maury Yeston

"This song belongs to the late David Carroll, the greatest singer to ever grace a Broadway stage. I sing it in his shadow."

Gethsemane
(I Only Want to Say)

From Jesus Christ Superstar
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by Tim Rice

"I grew up listening to KISS, Aerosmith, Rush. I had done some musicals as a kid and enjoyed acting, but I spent far more time with pop/rock influences than anything else. Jesus Christ Superstar was like, when worlds collide."

In My Dreams

From All Girl Band
Music & Lyrics by Bradford Craig

"Written by Bradford Craig for a musical called All Girl Band, this is the first original song I got to perform in NYC."
